We are delighted to announce the launch of INSO South Sudan.
After more than a year of detailed engagement with NGOs, donors, local authorities and other stakeholders, we were successfully registered in December 2017 and are now moving in to the administrative and logistical set up stage. Initial services are expected to launch by the end of the first quarter of 2018.
The project is being set up in full cooperation with the existing coordination mechanisms.
"INSO coming to South Sudan marks an important development for the safe delivery of humanitarian assistance." noted Dr Pius Ojara, Secretariat Director of the well renowned and long running South Sudan NGO Forum "They will complement the efforts of the NGO Forum and contribute towards the more effective and safer delivery of humanitarian assistance" he continued.
South Sudan is one of the most challenging environments for humanitarian operations.
With conflict entering its fifth year, and famine declared in early 2017, an estimated 4 million people have been displaced with up to 7 million in need of humanitarian assistance and protection.
A November report from UNOCHA cited 103 access related incidents that month, with 37% involving humanitarians and resulting in nine killed and more than 40 cases of staff withdrawal due to insecurity.
"We are newcomers to this context, so it is important that first we listen and learn" said INSO founder and Executive Director Nic Lee "but, over time, we are confident that our efforts will contribute to the safer delivery of aid and reduce the risks faced by individual NGO workers."
South Sudan is the latest node in INSO's global network that supports more than 800 NGOs worldwide.
